General Information
Located in northwest Orange County, the City of Los Alamitos is a peaceful, tree lined residential area that boasts a very energetic business community. Strategically situated at the junction of the I-605, I-405, and 22 Freeways. The 91 Freeway is five miles to the north and the I-710 is seven miles to the west. Los Alamitos is conveniently located four miles from the Long Beach Airport, 19 miles from John Wayne/Orange County Airport, and 22 miles from Los Angeles International Airport. The Ports of Long Beach and Los Angeles are approximately ten miles to the west. The City maintains much of its original small town image. Consistent with the community's values is its caring attitude for its residents. The City is both politically and financially stable.
The City Council is dedicated to maintaining quality City services for its residents. The council adopted a utility tax in 1991 that has better ensured the financial stability of the City. The City's reserves are strong as is funding for ongoing operations.
Economy
Los Alamitos has a strong local sales tax base, which ranks within the top five of all Orange County cities on a per capita basis. The Los Alamitos business community is strongly represented by the variety of businesses within the Planned Light Industrial areas of the city. Several well-maintained business parks and industrial buildings provide a unique setting for business to operate in a favorable environment at rates consistently below countywide averages. A 1980 Coro Foundation Report called it a "jewel of a city".
Employment
Los Alamitos has a highly diversified economic base, consisting of light industry, manufacturing, commercial businesses, and many restaurants. The city is debt free, well administered, and has preserved much of the original small town image.
Low crime rate and many other small town amenities, Los Alamitos provides a pleasant atmosphere within a thriving metropolitan area and a safe comfortable place to live, work, and play.
